Dialogue for Two - 2011

An echo location: 4-Track Sound Installation involving call and response clapping rhythms, recorded without edit, while walking in a circle in an interior space. The second recording was recorded in response to the first by listening to the sound of first recording through headphones while performing. When exhibited, the two tracks of “call” and “response” are played as a pair on two amplifiers, with a slight delay, to create a four track “call and response,” echo, surround sound effect.

The piece was played on two portable amplifiers in a circular clearing on Bumpkin Island in the Boston Harbor as part of the Bumpkin Island Art Encampment in the summer of 2011. The walking rhythm of the recording echoes the circular pathways of the island, allowing percussive beats to orient oneself in the landscape.

26 minutes in duration, looped.
